South Park returns from its winter break to begin its sixteenth season with an episode full of toilet humor, pun intended.  South Park seasons are always all over the board when it comes to quality per episode.  Some are brilliant while others are just trash.  Usually the premiere episodes are strong and this one was no different.

South Park episodes have become very formulaic over the years, give or take.  You have your stabs of political satire, the extreme and often disgusting sight-gags, and the over top nonsense, and this episode had it all.  Like most episodes it started with a simple concept everyone can relate to: the toilet seat debate.  In typical South Park fashion, the writers took what is a simple stupid argument (leave the seat up when done or put it down) and exaggerated it to death to show how ridiculous it is.  After the first few minutes I was afraid this episode was going to run into the classic South Park problem of “lets repeat this and run it into the ground” , but luckily seeing Clyde’s mother literally vacuumed to the toilet, legs straight up because she “fell in” had me dying and really showed off how ridiculous the complaints of leaving the seat up are.

The passive aggressive debate between the males and females of South Park over the toilet seat issue was great.  I will never look at loggers the same.  Once again the episode could have ran the joke into the ground, but luckily they added in enough variety and new jokes each time that it stayed fresh.

The TSA was the real bullseye for the writers this week though.  The security check ins for the bathrooms had me laughing each time and was something everyone could relate to.  Many disagree but I always found South Park’s best asset to be its parody of big news topics and blowing them out of proportion.  Seeing the incompetent security team casually say “I just needs to checks insides your asshole” was typical South Park potty humor with parody done well.  I could have done without the masturbating security camera watcher as it seemed to be placed in there for a cheap laugh, but what do you expect from South Park.  I’m sure some 13 year olds out there watching it thought it was the funniest thing they’ve ever seen.

The whole “sue-ance” part was a total miss for me though and could have really been cut out entirely.  Poking fun at the ridiculous nature of our legal system and how you can “sue anyone” at a price should work, but the whole joke fell completely flat and was the weakest part of the episode in my opinion.

This episode really did well thanks to its sight gags.  Clyde’s mom in the toilet and then again at the funeral, seeing Randy get written a ticket by a cop for not wearing his toilet seat belt, Cartman clipping his toenails while on the phone with Twizzlers in his mouth, the TSA check ins, all of them had me laughing.  And that’s what South Park reviews really should come down to: did it make you laugh?  In this respect this episode was successful.  Though still not as strong as some other premieres, it was a good start to the new season and worthy watch.

Side note: Butters idea of the proper way to sit on the toilet was nothing short of genius and had me dying and the ending was just a cherry on the top.  I was almost crying.

For the record this is the best solution:
